Microsoft’s Flight Simulator just looks awesome on PC

The last version of Microsoft Flight Simulator came out in 2006. Many, myself included, had written the franchise off for dead. Now it’s back, due out for PC and Xbox One in 2020, with a sophisticated set of assets pulled directly from satellite imagery on Bing. Earlier this month I traveled to Seattle for a hands-on demonstration of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Later, I sat down with Jorg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, to answer the question: Why now?

The WNBA in NBA 2020 is taking it to another dimension.

When 2K Sports announced, back in August, how the WNBA would figure into its NBA 2K flagship, I sort of fixated on the fact it wouldn’t be included in the game’s MyCareer suite and left it off there. In my defense, the official announcement lingered on every detail but the modes of play, which it described as “Play Now” and “Season.” I took the latter to mean a stretch of 34 games without much connecting them.

Mario Kart Tour’s $4.99 monthly subscription fee is out of touch with reality

Mario Kart Tour is Nintendo’s take on the Mario Kart franchise for mobile phones, and it’s out now as a free release on both iOS and Android devices. But some of the game’s features, including an entire racing class, are locked behind a subscription fee.

Some Pokémon Go spawn points have vanished

One of the latest Pokémon Go updates seems to have gotten rid of a bulk of Pokémon spawn points in the game. It seems that while some points were added, a lot of them were removed from players’ usual routes. Niantic has not made any announcements regarding spawn point changes.

Respawn is making a new Medal of Honor game for VR

EA’s classic first-person shooter franchise Medal of Honor is coming back as a virtual reality game for Oculus Rift. Called Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, it’s due out in 2020. The game is being developed by Respawn, the Electronic Arts-owned maker of highly regarded shooters like the Titanfall series and Apex Legends.

The Last of Us Part 2 set for February 2020 launch

Nearly three years after it was announced, The Last of Us Part 2 finally has a concrete release date. Naughty Dog and Sony will launch the highly anticipated sequel Feb. 21, 2020, on PlayStation 4, the companies announced Tuesday during the September episode of State of Play.

PlayStation 5 will consume less power in effort to combat climate change

The video game industry is banding together to combat climate change, with Sony Interactive Entertainment committing to lowering the power consumption of its next-generation PlayStation — at least while it’s in suspend mode — in an effort save more electricity.
