The UK gets the first official 5G launch date

Vodafone has announced that its 5G network will be coming live on July 3rd making it the first UK carrier to receive a date for the launch of the next-gen mobile network. The upcoming network will be available in seven cities at first, and Vodafone plans to release four handsets and one home router in the coming months. The company says that the 5G network system will be priced as its 4G equivalents, and will announce the new price plans next week.

Instagram shuts down experiment for direct messaging

Facebook is shutting down Direct, a standalone camera-first messaging app used to send Instagram direct messages. “In the coming month, we’ll no longer be supporting the Direct app,” read a message in the app announcing the shutdown. “Your conversations will automatically move over to Instagram, so you don’t need to do anything.” The announcement was first spotted by social media commentator Matt Navarra.

Full reduction against Mac Intel attack takes 40% hit

Following the announcement of new speculative execution exploits that target Intel CPU architecture, Apple has posted a new document on its website that explains how customers with computers that are ‘at heightened risk’ of attack can enable full mitigation. Full mitigation is not enabled by default as it is probably an excessive amount of security for the average user, and it comes with big performance penalties.
